An Introduction
The desire that I have for continuing to do this work is that my vision for the outcome of the work aligns with the vision of those who get to enjoy the work while it lasts. In the tradition of those carpenters and craftsman, old and new, who of their own accord, apply their knowledge and skill and vision to the work at hand in order to leave behind some beautiful, useful thing for someone to use and appreciate until it no longer serves it’s purpose for them either due to the natural decay of time or the simple factor of change.
Modern materials and advancements in functional design can come together with traditional materials and processes to create endless opportunities for unique and effective designs. This allows for virtually untethered creativity when imagining our living spaces and it’s this concept that underlies my reasoning for doing this work.
I’ve been fortunate in my time as a carpenter to work and develop my knowledge and skills in many facets of carpentry from framing homes to interior finishing to furniture making to cabinet making and in other things as well like learning how (and how not) to run a business, managing renovations and home building projects and running a cabinet shop along with my personal study of home energy design and architecture. All of this, through the good times and difficulties have instilled in me a deep desire to see and do less mundane and production-style work and do more creative and artistic work in the realm of carpentry and home building that will truly improve and elevate our living spaces and reflect our uniqueness through thoughtful design.
